Description and characteristics of sweet peppers of the Bogatyr variety

Many summer residents and gardeners allocate a site for planting sweet pepper. This delicious and healthy vegetable is an important ingredient in many dishes.... It is canned, frozen. Therefore, every grower wants to get a good harvest of vegetables. The Bogatyr variety fully corresponds to its name, the description and characteristics of which can be found below.

Description and characteristics of bogatyr sweet pepper

Bell pepper The hero is very popular among vegetable growers for his beautiful appearance., unpretentiousness and high productivity. Refers to mid-season varieties.

The Bogatyr variety appeared in the Russian State Register of Agricultural Crops in 1996. Its "parent" is the staff of the Moldavian Scientific Research Institute. The creator of Bogatyr is the Agrofirma Poisk society, located in the Moscow region. The employees of the agricultural firm clearly identified the regions that are the most successful for cultivating varieties:

  • North Caucasian region;
  • Lower Volga region.

All varieties of sweet vegetables were obtained by selection from bitter chili peppers.

Depending on the seed manufacturer, you can get fruits of a cuboid or cone-shaped shape weighing at least 150 grams... The bush is about 60 centimeters tall with many branches and branches. The crown blooms violently, an ovary is formed on almost every flower. With proper care, 7 kilograms of fleshy fruits can be obtained from one square meter of a summer cottage. With large-scale sowing, you can get 400 kilograms of fruit per hectare.

The weight of one fruit varies from 150 to 200 grams.

The first green fruits appear on the plant 130 days after the first shoot. Full ripening - staining red 15-30 days after technical ripeness.

The fruits are usually large in size, with a thick juicy peel of at least 0.5 centimeters, are saturated with amino acids and vitamin C.

Fresh pepper is most useful. Since after heat treatment, more than 60% of its useful composition is lost.

Summer residents love this variety for its unpretentiousness and high resistance to diseases. Seedlings are planted in mid-February., while there is a simultaneous germination of plants. As it grows, a strong stem and a branched root system are formed.

The first fruits are harvested in August. Bell pepper is frost-resistant, so it continues to bloom and bear fruit until the first frost.

The variety is suitable for growing outdoors and greenhouses.

Advantages of the variety

This variety has many advantages:

  • High yield;
  • Unpretentiousness in care;
  • Bright red fruits beautiful shape;
  • Beautiful taste;
  • Sustainability to frost and temperature changes;
  • Ability resist disease;
  • High transportability;
  • Versatility of use: well suited both for preparing salads, hot dishes, and for canning and freezing;
  • Long shelf life fruits.

This variety has practically no drawbacks. According to summer residents, there are only two of them:

  1. Afraid of drought, therefore, needs regular watering;
  2. Does not bear fruit in darkened areas.

Pepper has medicinal properties. Its use is especially useful for arthritis, heart disease, weakened immunity and anemia.

Planting seeds, growing a plant

The fruiting period of a vegetable is quite long, therefore it can only be grown by seedlings. Seed material can be different: both own collection and purchased.

Do not use seeds with a shelf life of more than 5 years. You can get very weak shoots or even be left without a crop.

The available seeds should be sorted, selecting only large and undamaged ones - this is a visual stage. Then it is worth culling with a saline solution. Add 40 grams of table salt to 1000 ml of water, carefully resize and lower the previously selected seeds. Move the solution again. Raw materials suitable for sowing will be at the bottom of the container, unsuitable seeds will float up.

The selected seed is thoroughly washed with water and disinfected in a weak solution of manganese. Then we put it on germination, spreading it out on a thoroughly soaked cotton cloth. The fabric is folded in several layers at the top and bottom of the seeds. Germination is carried out within 7 days, the fabric should be constantly damp.

The room must be warm, in this case, the seedlings will appear in a week and they can be planted in containers prepared for this.

Pepper is very afraid of fungus, therefore seedling soil must be disinfected... Seeds are placed at a distance of 2 centimeters from each other, the top layer of earth is no more than one centimeter.

To create a greenhouse effect, containers with seedlings are covered with foil. As soon as the first shoots appear, the film is removed, and the containers are placed in a well-lit place at a room temperature of at least 17 degrees.

After about 30 days, a plant is obtained with 3-4 formed leaves and a good rhizome... It is at this moment that the seedlings should be transplanted into separate containers. You can choose peat cups or plastic ones. When transplanting, it is important not to touch the root system, otherwise the plant will hurt for a long time. It is not worth deepening the seedling strongly.

In order for the plant to form a strong root, it is necessary to pinch: using a scalpel or sharp scissors, cut off part of the sprout at the 5th internode.

You should not place the seedlings in the bright sun, they can outgrow. We do a little shading.

Pepper seedlings are fed two times:

  • First time 14 days after the appearance of the first shoots;
  • Second time two weeks after the first feeding.

If the indoor temperature drops below 13 degrees, the seedlings stop growing.

On a permanent place of growth, seedlings are planted at the age of 2-2.5 months after preliminary hardening. Hardening is carried out for two to three weeks. To do this, the cups with plants are taken out of the room into the open air from the beginning for 30 minutes, and then every day we increase the time to a whole day.

Planting in open ground is carried out according to the scheme - 40 centimeters between plants, 60 centimeters between rows... Some gardeners prefer to plant two plants in one hole. Directly during planting, fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium can be applied into the recess.

You can not plant seedlings in open ground if the air temperature is below 15 degrees.

Then the pepper needs to be watered every time the soil dries up and more often to loosen the ground. Pepper loves nitrogen fertilizers, therefore, you can feed him twice a month with diluted chicken droppings in a ratio of 1 to 10.

The result is a sturdy, green bush that needs to be tied to a trellis.

Warm water is used for irrigation, otherwise the plant will slow down in growth and flowering.

Diseases and pests

The Bogatyr variety has resistance to the most common diseases, such as:

  • verticillary wilting;
  • tobacco mosaic;
  • top rot.

However, there are diseases and pests that can cause significant damage to the crop. Of the pests, this variety is most susceptible to the influence of pepper aphids.

The most dangerous diseases:

  1. Alternarose... Symptoms: Watery spots appear on the fruits, and dark brown on the leaves. Treatment: spraying plants with burgundy liquid;
  2. Septoria... Symptoms: the whole plant is covered with gray spots with a pronounced dark edging. For treatment, a solution of phytosporin is used 1 tablespoon per bucket of water;
  3. Blackleg... Symptoms: The lower part of the stem begins to rot. Unfortunately, with this disease it is not possible to cure the plant. The seedling is removed and destroyed. The earth is disinfected with a solution of copper sulfate.

The most dangerous pests:

  1. Aphid... This pest can cover an entire plant and destroy it in a couple of days. For prophylaxis and during infection, a solution of Karbofos can be used in a proportion of 25 ml per 10 liters of water;
  2. Slugs... These pests are destroyed by frequent loosening of the soil around the seedlings. For prevention, you can sprinkle the ground with wood ash and dry hot pepper;
  3. Spider mite... Folk remedies are perfect for combating these pests: decoctions of onions, garlic or dandelions, a solution of laundry soap.

The best prevention of diseases and pests - timely weed control. They should not be on the site during plant fasting, as well as thorough cleaning and digging of the soil to prepare for the winter.

Pepper Bogatyr does not require much effort to grow. A little care and attention and each plant bush can bring at least 2.5 kilograms delicious and beautiful fruits.

The variety was obtained in 1996 thanks to the labor of breeders of the Moldavian Research Institute. The most suitable regions for growing Bogatyr sweet pepper are the North Caucasian and Nizhnevolzhsky regions.

Although it should be borne in mind that bell pepper seeds are sold by several agricultural firms and the characteristics of the culture are somewhat different (the height of the bushes, the weight of the fruits, the ripening period). The general advantage of the Bogatyr variety is resistance to low temperatures, so flowers and ovaries appear on the bushes before the first frost.

Storage and use of fruits

The specified variety, upon reaching biological maturity, becomes a deep red color. As the description of the variety by the manufacturer and reviews confirm, the Bogatyr pepper is quite fleshy. The thickness of the sweet pulp is 0.6-0.8 cm. The fruit has a well-pronounced aroma, they are characterized by excellent taste.

Farmers choose this variety because it tolerates transportation well, even over long distances. There are no problems with its implementation after transportation: it can maintain a good presentation for a long time. It can be stored for extended periods at home at low temperatures.

Description of fruits
